Transcript: March 16th—Cross-dressing and Gender-bending in Steampunk

Despite the relatively high incidence of cross-dressing in Victorian life we were hard put to find many Steampunk characters of this type, especially male ones. Seems the time is ripe for someone to unleash a complex, fascinating new character on the literary world.

But he’d have to go a bit further than just wearing a corset, since that wasn’t unusual in the Victorian era. How else was a man supposed to acquire the fashionable silhouette of the true dandy?

Scroll up from the bottom to read in chronological order:

mattdelman For my part, I’ve been witness to two Queen of Steam pageants at New England-area cons. #steampunkchat -6:06 PM Mar 16th, 2012

GKByrne I think there are characters that, in my mind, dress towards the other gender but don’t outright cross-dress. #steampunkchat-6:06 PM Mar 16th, 2012
